Jyo Miyaji is a Japanese New Zealand born director, writer, and editor, raised in Bali and now based in Melbourne. Working across music videos and narrative film, she is drawn to human stories that translate the inner and outer worlds of herself and others, fuelled by a fascination with the space between realism and surrealism.
Her work moves between the surreal and the familiar — from gothic, dreamlike music videos, to short films, to projects made hand-in-hand with their subjects. She is currently in pre-production on her first documentary.
Alongside her filmmaking, she co-founded a recurring night celebrating film and music by independent artists with singer-songwriter Tilly Vickers Willis.
