A love letter to women who have been attacked by colorism for generations

Nigerian American filmmaker Onyinyechukwu Akametalu made Dear Dark-Skinned Black Girl as a response to poetry by Nyawech Tut.

It is a love letter to women who have been attacked by colorism for generations.

Akametalu << The heart of this project is the poetry written by Nyawech Tut. I read the poem before meeting Nya and was touched by the fact that I could relate to the words of a stranger simply because we had grown up in this world with the same skin. We brought this project to life for women like us, to remind them that their skin is something to be loved! >>
