Peier “Tracy” Shen is a Chinese writer-director currently based in Los Angeles. LIKE FLYING is a short film following the childhood of a young Chinese - American girl caught in the limbo of her parent’s fractured relationship. There is a quiet although crescendoing sadness attached to this short and a desire to be seen and held. LIKE FLYING is visceral in its narrative, coupled with an almost iridescent aesthetic quality against sunlit spaces. The short is a portrayal of the complexities of a caretaker’s life and the inevitable impact on the ones who are supposed to be cared for. LIKE FLYING juxtaposes this sentiment with being a child, an incarnation of one’s own dreams and the characters who raised them. The quirk and awe of every step at a young age is deeply felt, now without the innocent privilege of oblivion.
