This short film was created with the goal of addressing menstruation not just as a topic of awareness, but as a systemic issue affecting girls’ education.
Rather than producing a traditional institutional campaign, the team chose storytelling as a way to foster empathy and understanding. The film explores both the external reality of school life and the internal emotional experience many girls face during their period, including anxiety, confusion, and fear of embarrassment that often go unseen.
Through a visual contrast between color scenes, representing everyday school life, and black and white sequences, representing the character’s internal world, the film brings to life the psychological weight carried by many students. This dual perspective allows audiences to connect more deeply with an experience that is often minimised or stigmatised.
Great care was taken during casting and production, especially when working with young girls, ensuring a safe and respectful environment in collaboration with families and schools. Their voices and perspectives were central to the authenticity of the story.
The project reflects a broader ambition to move beyond awareness and create real, lasting change. 'The Period Uniform' proposes a simple but impactful structural solution by integrating period care into school uniforms, making access automatic and helping normalize menstruation so that it never becomes a barrier to education.
