Following the death of her lover, a heartbroken woman travels to the empty coast to reconnect with him through strange objects.

Mollusca is a short poetry film that explores grief and the yearning for intimacy through unchoreographed movement, soundscapes composed of skin against skin, whispers and waves. I developed the story and shot it with my DOP all within one week. Against the brooding backdrop of the Southern English coastline and accompanied by Damsel Elysium’s haunting original score, Mollusca contrasts the raw pain of grief with the tender bliss of loving touch. The film navigates the paradox of love — its complexity and its simplicity. I sought to echo the strange persistence and transformation of love and grief, and the vulnerability that emerges when they coexist. Working with a real couple allowed us to capture intimacy in its rawest form, framing authentic sensations and unscripted tenderness as they responded to each other’s touch. The film deliberately leaves its opening question — "What do I sound like from the other side?" — unanswered, embracing ambiguity. Mollusca moves fluidly between two liminal spaces, straddling worlds both physical and emotional.Mollusca leaves us pondering: “Who is truly the ghost when lovers are separated by death?”
