SEÁNA is an intimate hybrid documentary exploring grief, friendship, and the complexities of coming of age in the wake of loss. The film follows my close friend Rosalie as she approaches April, a month that brings her late best friend Seána’s birthday and the anniversary of her death within days of one another. Through candid conversations, archival material, and experimental fiction, Rosalie reflects on losing Seána at just 17 years old and the ways her absence continues to shape her life.

Filmmaker Audrey Lane says ‘the process of making SEÁNA was humbling, inspiring, and filled with moments of deep attunement, reckoning, and learning. As an end-of-life doula, creating this film alongside Rosalie reminded me of the sacred, singular nature of grief, and that no matter how intimately we know someone, there is always more to uncover. Rosalie taught me that even after wounds become scars, they can still bleed—and that the scars we carry from adolescence often run the deepest.’

‘Ultimately, this film is Rosalie’s love letter to Seána and my love letter to Rosalie. It is an ode to friendship, youth interrupted, and the enduring imprint of a soul who lived and loved fiercely.’

Following a festival run, the team behind the film hope to bring SEÁNA to schools and community spaces across the country, partnering with organizations like INELDA and the COPE Foundation to foster more open and compassionate conversations around loss and youth mental health.
