'The Identity We Have Built' is a short documentary that follows Marcela, Anabella, and Estrella, three trans women who have surpassed the life expectancy imposed on trans people in Argentina, which is around 37 years old. Through intimate testimonies and moments of quiet observation, the film explores how their lives have been shaped by love, loss, desire, and survival within a system that has historically exposed them to violence and vulnerability.
Each woman revisits her own memories, reflecting on the emotional and physical marks left by time, discrimination, and resistance. Their voices intertwine with carefully composed images that blur the line between documentary and poetic cinema, allowing the film to move beyond testimony and into a shared emotional space.Rather than focusing solely on trauma, the documentary emphasizes resilience, dignity, and the act of remembering as a form of defiance. Marcela, Anabella, and Estrella insist on being seen, not as statistics, but as women who have built their identities through struggle, affection, and persistence. In doing so, the film becomes an intimate portrait of survival and a quiet refusal of oblivion.
