Premiered last year as part of the ICA’s Life on Venus exhibition with Awkward Moments & friends, Grace Pickering’s UNDERGROUND is launching online this month. An intimate portrait of British pop artist Sarah Nimmo, the film chronicles her first year releasing and touring as an independent solo act.

Following her years leading the prominent electro-pop band NIMMO, Sarah Nimmo started anew in 2025. Through a series of vignettes and conversations with friends and family, Sarah weighs her joy in doing what she loves against the challenges faced by rising artists in the modern era. Communing with her heroes and exploring ideas of community, queerness, faith and love, she finds a path forward.

Making her Raindance Film Festival debut last year with the nominated short We Both Laughed in Pleasure, Grace Pickering is a film maker, photographer and creative director from Manchester. Known for creating work that merges emotional depth with striking visuals, she has created with institutions like A25, British Vogue and for artists like Haim, Raye and Dua Lipa.
